CHICAGO (CBS)– A flight touring to Los Angeles Worldwide Airport was diverted to Chicago after a bomb risk Wednesday morning.
United Flight 1533, with 202 passengers, took off from Newark Liberty Worldwide Airport at 6:05 a.m. and landed at O’Hare Airport at 7:44 a.m. Chicago time.
Police confirmed the passengers have been evacuated, and the aircraft was being searched at a distant location at O’Hare Airport.
In accordance with a preliminary police report, a word was discovered within the lavatory stating the aircraft would blow up. CBS 2 has discovered {that a} bomb-sniffing Ok-9 discovered one suspicious bag, and a robotic was deployed to maneuver it away. Police are questioning the passenger who checked that bag.
An airline supply mentioned the canine related a scent from the threatening word and the bag.
The FBI is investigating.
A passenger on the flight informed CBS 2 that he boarded a bus with police and was being taken again to the airport terminal. He mentioned passenger’s luggage are being checked.
“They’re taking us again to a terminal I assume they are going to undergo luggage, perhaps query us,” the passenger mentioned. “We have been compelled to go away all of our stuff on the aircraft and do not know what is going on subsequent.”
