A safety guard who killed a person through the July unrest in KwaZulu-Natal was sentenced to twenty years in jail on Monday.
KwaZulu-Natal NPA spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara stated Joel Fenton Pillay, who drove a marked safety automobile, shot and killed Lindani Mthethwa on 12 July 2021 in Verulam, Durban.
Ramkisson-Kara stated advocate Thabani Buthelezi cited proof from two eyewitnesses and the situation particulars captured by the automobile monitoring machine, which positioned Pillay on the scene of the capturing.
“On 12 July 2021, the deceased, Lindani Mthethwa, was strolling on Eire Avenue in Verulam when Pillay drove previous him. Pillay, who was driving a marked automobile owned by a safety firm, turned his automobile round and drove again in direction of Mthethwa. When he was alongside Mthethwa, he lowered the window of his automobile and shot him within the head. Mthethwa died on the scene,” stated Ramkisson-Kara.
